Flood Panic
In this project, we take data from various sources and feed them into a flooding model.
We plan to have three steps:
1. Consolidate data pertaining to floods from presently decentralised sources across Tasmania
2. Process the data to automatically generate and update a high-resolution 3D model of Hobart
3. Application: The specificity of the model will help Forecast risk zones; an interactive modelling tool could test mitigation strategies; QR codes display augmented reality simulations when your out and about; text/further information to help people in the flood risk zones; constantly access the latest real-time flood information; future projections; educational tool, instant alerts and more. this idea has lots of potential!
Data has been used to understand the historical and the current flood events and the affected areas in Hobart. It provides us with specific data about the velocity, depth and hazards. This helped us to predict future flood events risks which will feed into the interactive 3D model of Hobart. The model will use an algorithm based on the existing data.
