Project Description

Problem Statement

    1. People need multiple bus and train trips to get to a destination, and there is a big time lag with transition time. compared to driving.

Buses sometimes are not reliable, cancellations with no notice, often get delayed

The routine is not personalized to you

  • Solution

This app combines multiple apps, Google Maps, AT Mobile, and AT Park, to make public transport more accessible and user-friendly. If your route on public transport takes several busses or trains, this app can show you the nearest car park to a stop so that it only takes one bus or train to your destination.

As our aim is to make positive climate impact by using public transport, we also have the information about how much Carbon emission you have saved by choosing public transport over your own vehicle for this routine. To do so, we would link your AT account with your car information. It would also give you an estimation of how much fuel you have saved.

We also implement Google API with real time traffic data to suggest the optimal path to take at that time, suggest alternative bus/route if the current chosen bus is cancelled.

    Future Consideration

Automatic Bus Tag On/Off & Parking Payment

With a set route, automatically start paying for parking when entering car park and automatically tag on and off bus.

    Rerouting

If a bus is cancelled or if you're going to miss the set bus, reroute to the next fastest stop and car park.

    Eco-friendly score

Sending weekly report about how much Carbon emission you've saved by choosing to take the bus instead of driving.

    Driving View Mode

When driving to the car park, have a driving view mode similar to Google Maps / Waze.

    Set Time & Schedule

Set a time when you need to get to location and when you're leaving to specify the route going back to car park.
    bus instead of driving.

    Data Story

    AT Bus Service

We use this data to figure out which bus we can take for certain destination input and how far it is between 2 points, which we then use to calculate how much carbon emission we could save by choosing a bus over our own car

    AT Parking Service

We use this data to figure out where there are parking facilities so that we can park nearby and take the bus from there

    AT Metro bus performance report

We use this data to analyze and predict what bus would have more tendency to be delayed or less reliable than the other amongst the available bus for certain routes.

Apart from that, we also use Google API to incorporate real-time traffic data and a Carbon emission calculator add-on to calculate the amount of carbon footprint our car generates, from then seeing how much carbon emission we save by not driving but taking bus

    Team DataSets

Location of AT Bus Stops and Routes

Description of Use We use this data set to identify the bus stop and routes that you can take if wanting to incorporate both driving and bussing in your journey planner

    Data Set

AT Bus Performance Jan 2020 - May 2022

Description of Use We use the AT Metro bus performance report which contains data for punctuality and reliability to suggest people what bus to take for their destination, given that these buses have similar route.

Best utilisation of public transportation for climate impact

How can we use data to make buses to be an attractive transport option for citizens – to be more flexible, available when you need them, safer, more sustainable and efficient?

Technology Literacy in a Digital First World

Connected digital technologies are rapidly changing the way we live, learn, and work. But digital literacy is an important challenge facing New Zealand leading to digital exclusion. How can we build a system which helps advance “Technology Literacy” in New Zealand to help advance our community equitably?
