Project Description

Petidcare is a cross-platform (developed in react native) application that allows pet owners and pet service providers, especially vets to improve their health and wellbeing. It is a digital platform that enables owners, and pet service providers to securely record/access/track pet information digitally and streamline appointment booking processes.

Petidcare believes pet health information should be easily accessible and shareable while the owners should have full control of their information in their hands. A digital ID is assigned to each pet which links to important pet information and our appointment system uses that to auto-fill pet/owner details for appointments. This ensures vital information including pet medical records is easily tracked and shared via the digital ID. This digital ID is securely serialised and stored on the blockchain which provides privacy and security.

Note: The app is runable and is available on Github (in the source code url). The video also contains some simulations.

Data Story

With one of the highest pet ownership rates in the world, we have long known that having a pet is a way of life for the majority of Australians. Pets have contributed overwhelmingly to reducing the effects of loneliness, isolation, anxiety and in-activity. Pets also effectively bring routine and discipline to people’s lives helping to improve physical and mental wellbeing, particularly through some of the most challenging aspects of the pandemic such as extended lockdowns and employment loss.

Analysis of recent data shows that there has been an unprecedented rise in pet ownership across the country. However, we are now having a big vet shortage within Australia and currently the veterinary industry is in a mental health crisis. Nearly 70 percent of vets have lost a colleague or peer to suicide and about 6 in 10 have sought professional help for their mental health.
