Project Description

With the increasing price of driving, especially with gas, alternative transportations such as bikes and scooters have become popular and essential to our country. Furthermore, emissions that are produced by cars and other transportations are causing a massive impact on the world, such as climate change, and overall pollution of air. This impact can cause health issues and causes damage the environment.

To resolve the issue of poorly conditioned pathways, and ensure a safer alternative of transportation, we have developed a new system that will use the data from the e-bikes and e-scooters to find these poorly conditioned paths and contact both the users of these transportation and the government. The data will show where, these poorly conditioned pathways are, allowing the government to upgrade and replace them, making more efficient and safer paths. These data will also notify bicycle and scooter users, about construction works, road closes, and poorly conditioned and unsafe roads, while also displaying the most effective route to their destination. A device that is already placed within the e-bikes and e-scooters will notify the system, on bumpy roads, long stop times. The overall information regarding the safety and usage of these pathways will be improved and displayed.

Data Story

Data: Cycle's aim is to use data, that is gathered from e-bikes and e-scooters to better pathways, and other roads, thus increasing their usage of them. The increased usage of shared e-bikes and e-scooters will also decrease the greenhouse gas produced by cars and other vehicles.

Using open data sources, such as the maps of the forestry around Canberra, and open data road information from ACT, we have created a plan that will tackle such issues.

The data that are used were presented in a different formats, such as numbers, graphs, maps etc... These data were analysed, and used throughout the project.

Team DataSets

Sensors and e-bike used to collect data

Description of Use This data was used to investigate the features of GPS tracker within the e bike. By understanding this, it has allowed to further develop our idea, of using the data gathered by the e bike, to create safer and better pathways, and infrastructure for the users of bikes.

Data Set

Canberra Vegetation Structure Map

Description of Use This dataset shows Canberra's vegetation structure as a map. We used this data to develop our idea, and where future infrastructure of bike paths can go.

Data Set

National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Quarterly Update: December 2021

Description of Use We used this dataset to discover and prove the amount of gas produced and leaked by the exhaust of the car. We discovered that due to the effect of COVID, the actual usage of gas has decreased. This indicates possible solutions and alternatives to driving. With this dataset, we can develop an idea and create a prediction as to how much gas usage we can decrease. This dataset provided us with the time period in which greenhouse gases are increased, and when they are decreased.

Data Set

ACT Government Open Data Portal

Description of Use This dataset was used in many ways, including the locating of pathways, vegetation, and bicentennial national trail. We also used to find inefficiency, and the overall biking infrastructure. We used this dataset to develop, analysis and strengthen our idea of the implementation of E-bikes and scooters to more areas, which then we use the e bike data to improve the overall transport infrastructure.

Data Set

Infrastructure Cycleway Data

Description of Use The dataset was used to learn about the infrastructure of NSW, and discovered the natures of their trails. We used this dataset to explore the use of bike lanes, paths, bridges and stop lights.
