Project Description

Our idea is an app called connectiverse, this web based application would allow people to connect and help develop each others skills.

Users of connectiverse can add skills to their profile they would like to teach and would like to learn. Based on the skills entered the users will be matched up with other members of society that would like to connect and also be able to view upcoming courses.

Users can message each other to discuss teaching/learning each other skills and can register to events.

Students can put in skills they have acquired through their education to get an idea of what career pathways align closely with them and what skills they need to learn and allow local organisations and businesses to organise local events that could connect with a local school to engage with students that have similar skills.

By building a community through connectiverse aimed at improving knowledge and skills, we hope to encourage cultural diversity in the workplace and create social cultural awareness to allow people that have been unfairly discouraged from continuing education another avenue for learning.

Data Story

From the Australian Bureau of Statistics Census data around Technology and Innovation, since 2018 there has been up to a 8% increase in the need for IT professional and support based skills used in undertaking core business activities. In this same time period up to a 10% increase can be seen in the ability for staff to be able to work from home. With these values consistent across all industries, even those that traditionally are non-digitally focused, it is obvious how important digital skills are becoming in the modern world.

More than 516 online government services are provided in Queensland alone, and alongside a 13% increase of reported cyber crimes in the 2020–21 financial year means this ever expanding footprint of the digital world and its impact on the daily lives of citizens highlights how critical it is that every person has the knowledge and skills to navigate this new landscape.

Moving away from digital skills, students are overwhelmed by different career pathways provided once graduated and would like more direction. There have also been statistics show major discrimination against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, like being unfairly denied a job or unfairly discouraged from continuing education, with one in five Australians recently experienced major discrimination.
