Project Description

The water usage crisis remains unrecognized and unnoticed by the citizens within Australia, both in rural and urban areas. Although almost all parts of Australia have sufficient water supplies and storage, the usage of water is still much higher than the average rainfall each year. Especially with major problems such as global warming affecting the average rainfall rate rapidly. According to Australian Bureau of Statistic, in 2014-15 the average area rainfall rate was 423 mm whereas in 2018-19 it became 352mm, almost a 20% loss year by year. Furthermore, even though we are receiving less water, the usage of water has remained the same throughout the years.

The main focus will be creating a smart water meter that allow citizens to view their own water usage data, for example, daily usage in the showers, flushing the toilet and even in some areas where there might be a water leak. This also predicts water bills based on water prices in the user's local area (and provider) and even provides suggestions that might improve overall water usage. This data is then collected and put togetheir into a system where it averages the water used in certain areas of Australia.

Our main objective of this project is to decrease the overall usage water, and hopefully within the next 10 years of the implementation the rate of rainfall will be higher than the usage.

Team DataSets

Internet Activity, Australia

Description of Use With the use of this dataset, it will allow us to create a system that targets audience with the use of internet, especially how the uses of internet activity is increasing. It will give trust to those who previous might not fully believe in providing data via the internet.

Data Set

Water Prices in Australia

Description of Use With the use of this dataset, it will allow us to create a prediction and provide statements in regards to usage of water and how much we are hoping to save. We then can compare our prediction with this data. We can also create predictions about the pricing and as one of our final aim, we aim to decrease the overall price of water.

Data Set

Water Account, Australia

Description of Use With the use of this dataset, it will allow us to create a prediction and provide statements in regards to usage of water and how much we are hoping to save. We then can compare our prediction with this data.

Data Set

Water Data Online

Description of Use This dataset displays different information in regards to the water situation within Australia. The water crisis is an issue that is an underlying issue in our community, and certainly one that is unawared or unknown to many. In our project, mistful, we can use such data to have a good understanding of the water issues, thus producing our plan, to create a system that will not only allow citizens to use technologies in the digital world to understand their own water usage, but also usage within their area. This will not only raise awareness, but also provide suggestions and tips to residence who are 'wasting' water in areas where they might not be aware of.

Data Set

Water information

Description of Use Our team used this dataset to identify water usage, storage and accessibility to gain a greater idea information in different state. This dataset was able to provide our team with information and allowed us to identify issues surrounding water.
