Project Description
SITH pulls data from a number of government sources in order to give Australian citizens insights that can help them plan their careers, transition to better paying jobs, or even find a new career that requires similar skills to their previous employment.
These professions are then cross referenced with ABS salary information, so that users could find upwards moves for their careers - better paying jobs that leverage skills they already possess!
We built SITH over 30 long hours as a standalone Vue application to showcase the tools and services that can be built using the Aristotle Metadata Registry.
We took inspiration from the Job Switch tool, and then added information about job tasks and salries on top to enhance the information available to job seekers.
Challenges
We've selected Exploring the National Skills Commission’s Australian Skills Classification as we feel we've provided a new and innovative way of exploring jobs and skills data.
Data Story
First, we migrated Australian Skills Classification from an Excel document into a standalone Aristotle Metadata Registry to provide us with search and similarity APIs.
We then pulled the ABS occupation classification, as well as average weekly earnings data from the ABS API to provide a more details view of employment opportunities and rewards.
Lastly, we built concordences from the Skills Classification to ANZSCo to provide a rich mapping or Skills and Occupations that was accessible online and via the API to power out web app.
