Project Description


A re-imagining of how we can better equip Learner drivers with meaningful driving skills and experiences using an alternative logbook application.


Data Story


Over the past 5 years, 33% of all Queensland motor vehicle crashes have involved young drivers between 17 and 24 years old. There is a notable spike in crashes that involve drivers within their first year of attaining their provisional license. This suggests that the current system of educating Learner drivers doesn't properly equip them with critical driving skills and behaviours.

Our hack concept, D.R.I.V.E., stands for Driving Reality with Innovative Virtual Experience. It aims to revamp the current logbook system by users acquiring 'experience' rather than attaining driving hours. Experience can be attained by watching tutorials and participating in VR scenarios that aim to provide further education on road safety. 'Experience boosters' can also be earned by users driving in road conditions that are inherently more difficult, such as wet weather, rough terrain, and dense traffic areas. These road conditions can be measured by using local weather and traffic APIs while geo-tracking users as they drive around.
